2012 - Caroline Keating, University of Nebraska at Lincoln, College of Law

The Bennett G. Hornstein Memorial Scholarship for aspiring or current law students was awarded to Caroline Keating for the 2012-2013 school year. She is from Omaha. Keating graduated from New York University with majors in journalism and Latin American Studies. She also earned dual Masters of Arts in the same fields in 2007 from University of Texas at Austin. Keating will graduate from the University of Nebraska College of Law.

After earning her graduate degrees, Keating organized the only worker-cooperative restaurant in New York City. She also established and coordinated the Austin Immigrant Rights Coalition, and volunteered for the Reform Immigration for Texas Alliance.

After her first year of law school, Keating was a judicial intern at the Federal Court in Puerto Rico. She then served as a judicial intern for the U.S. Department of Justice in the Executive Office for Immigration review in Omaha. She also worked with victims of domestic violence on their family law and immigration cases at Bay Area Legal Aid in San Francisco, CA.

After graduating from law school, Keating plans to work for an immigrant rights organization that engages in impact litigation.
